ADDIS ABABA—Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed(PhD) underlined that all Ethiopian holidays or religious celebrations belong to all citizens as they have been giving impetus to strengthen the long standing tolerance and coexistence among fellow citizens.
Conveying best wishes to all Ethiopians in connection with this year’s Timket festival, Prime Minister Abiy stated that Timket celebration is the hallmark of Ethiopia since it vividly reflects all citizens’ languages, hair styles, lyrics, ways of dancing and other relevant indices.
As to him, not only is Timket a religious festival but it is also of instrumental in reflecting our cultural assets and emblem of peaceful coexistence. All squares across the nation from Gondar to Harar, from Mekelle to Bale, from Metema to Jimma, among others, are bedecked with ritual ceremonies and have fundamentally showcased Ethiopians’ mosaic color of attraction and harmonious way of living styles.
The Premier said: “We all, as Ethiopians, are duty bound to lift the country out of the grip of poverty it finds itself in via working hard.” As to him, if every citizen is in a position to effectively discharge their respective responsibilities, bringing about real change in the country is unequivocally within our reach thereby creating a civilized Ethiopia, passing down a telling and remarkable history to posterity.
“As we have taken over the history, essential values and norms like Timket from our forefathers and foremother, who sacrificed a lot to keep their country’s identity intact, we are in turn expected to pass down all our pride, social values and courageous move for safeguarding our country down to the generation to come.”
Premier also called on all Ethiopians to move in unison to colorfully and peacefully celebrate this grand festival as public religious rituals like Timket, Arefa and others are Ethiopians best identities.
